Evolution of the translation layout of foreign literature:Based on different translations of Walden

This paper is a comparative analysis of the layout of the three Chinese translations of Walden —Xu Chi's translation in 1982,Xu Chongxin's in 1996 and Dai Huan's in 2006.It reveals that with the deepening of the reform and opening-up,the translators gradually change their strategy from foreignization to domestication.Seeking the cause,the author of this paper deems that a reasonable explanation can be offered by the polysystem theory,which holds that the position occupied by translated literature in the literary polysystem conditions the translator in his choice of translation strategy.
