A Novel Leaky Wave Antenna for Hyperthermia

2019
In this paper, we introduce a novel substrate integrated waveguide leaky wave antenna for a non-invasive hyperthermia of body tissues that can be a solution for eliminating cancerous tissues in human body. We exploited the interesting property of a leaky wave antenna in frequency scanning and after solving the electromagnetic (EM) problem and extracting propagation patterns, voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) and reflection loss (S11) of our antenna, we switched to a thermal problem to study how much can we heat up a sample tissue that is placed at the near field of a leaky wave antenna. Different antenna parameters such as the length of the feed-line, substrate thickness, substrate permittivity and the type of excitation pulse had to be optimized to reach the best solutions for our favorite application.
