The Global Distribution of Atmospheric Ice Nucleating Particles

2015
Using a global model of aerosol processes (GLOMAP-mode, Mann et al. 2010) we have simulated the distribution of feldspar, black carbon and marine organic INP. Using parameterizations of the ice nucleating ability of these species from laboratory studies, we can estimate the global distribution of ice nucleating particles. Our results suggest that feldspar aerosols dominate global INP concentrations. However, regionally, BC and marine organic aerosols can contribute to INP.
