Smoke, work features and work strain among the teachers in the primary and secondary schools.

[Objective] To discuss the relationship between the smoke status and occupational strain among the teachers in the primary and secondary school,so as to develop the strategies of tobacco control in school.[Methods] A cross-sectional survey was carried out in 658 teachers in primary and secondary school in Nanchong of Sichuan Province.The content included the demographic features,work features and occupational strain and stressor.[Results] The results showed the significantly differences between the male teachers and female teachers,the smoke rate was 52.2% among the male teachers,while was 2.2% among the female teachers.The male teachers had higher role overload and lower work control compared when compared with the female teachers.Stronger the physical strain,more cigarettes the male teachers would take.The main stressors come from work responsibility and work overload,about 75% teachers regard the work responsibility as the main stressor,50% teachers rank the work overload as the main stressor.[Conclusion] The strain could increase the consumption of the cigarettes.The key of the tobacco control lied in decreasing the smoke rate among the male teachers by increasing the empowerment and ability coping with the problems in the work.The measurements of tobacco control could bond with the measurements of occupational stress control in school.
