Weld Strength and Phase Structure of ABS/Polycarbonate Alloy

1996
The weld strength and phase structure of ABS/Polycarbonate alloy, was studied by using two kinds of ABS that have different melt viscosities. The weld strength of the blend of high melt viscosity ABS/polycarbonate was shown to be much higher than that of low melt viscosity ABS/polycarbonate. The deviation of weld strength was caused by flow behavior of ABS under various shear rate. The phase structure of the weld section was shown to have different morphologies. Phase separation was observed to be more pronounced in the morphology at the weld of low melt viscosity ABS/polycarbonate blend than that of high melt viscosity ABS/polycarbonate blend.
