Comparative study on mtDNA 16S rRNA gene sequence of three species of abalone

2003
mtDNA 16S rRNA Gene fragments of Haliotis discus discus H. discus hannai and H. gigantiea were amplified via PCR, and the PCR products were purified and sequenced. About 528bp nucleotide sequences were retrieved for each of the three species. The content of A+T was at a high level of 56.74%-57.12%. The three corresponding fragment sequences were aligned and compared with each other. There was little difference existing among the three wild species. The mutual homology between Haliotis discus discus vs H. discus hannai, H. discus discus vs H. gigantiea and H. gigantiea vs H. discus hannai was 99.81%, 99.81% and 99.61% respectively. The result shows that the mtDNA 16S rRNA gene fragment sequences of abalone is highly conserved.
