Transport Research Cooperation in Europe: The COST Success Story

COST, which stands for cooperation in scientific and technological research, is an intergovernmental framework that has coordinated nationally funded research in Europe since 1971. Transport has been one of the major areas of research activity. In this article, the Chief Counselor and past Director of the Danish Road Institute reviews the goals, structure, governance, and procedures of COST, its recent reorganization, and its achievements in transportation research.
