Topology, string tension and glueball masses in intermediate volume SU(3) lattice gauge theory

Abstract We investigate the onset of topology from the limit of small space volumes. To find the physical scale at which this happens we also investigate the string tension and glueball masses. The calculations are done in SU(3) lattice gauge theory on lattices of sizes between 8 3 64 up to 12 3 96.
