The PXI Standard — A Summary of Updates and Enhancements to the PXI Specifications

2019
The PXI standard was established in 1998 and since that time, the associated specifications have evolved based on advancements in card module technology and end-users' requirements. In September of 2018, the PXISA's technical committee completed an update of the various technical specifications associated with the standard. These updates, which affected both software and hardware specifications, were the result of both supplier and user requests for the purpose of supporting evolving / future test needs. Of particular significance were specification updates that addressed support for the Linux® operating system, the use of multi-slot modules as part of a PXI system, and the capability to support higher power modules. This paper reviews the specific details and rationale associated with the revisions made to seven of the specifications which are maintained by the PXI Systems Alliance (PXISA).
