Analysis of the transverse-momentum distributions of. pi. /sup + -/ mesons in. pi. /sup -/N interactions at 40 GeV/c

With statistics amounting to 10 000 ..pi../sup -/p and 4000 ..pi../sup -/n interactions, the single-particle inclusive transverse-meomentum distributions of the ..pi../sup + -/ mesons are analyzed on the basis of the statistical model of excited clusters and on the basis of the thermodynamic model.
