Diffuse interface modeling of liquid–vapor phase transition with hysteresis

Abstract The main aim of this paper is the investigation of a novel approach of implementation of a hysteresis operator into the diffuse interface model of two-phase flow with first-order phase transition. For the modeling of the vapor–liquid phase transition a versatile ODE-based hysteresis model is introduced under the assumption of a local non-equilibrium condition that enables a certain level of supersaturation without phase change.
