ACTIVE-LEARNING FOR NONNATIVE-ENGLISHSPEAKING STUDENTS

2018
We describe the process of teaching and learning through sessions of different active-learning methods to achieve course objectives and learning outcomes when both students and teachers cannot interact appropriately during lectures because of the absence of a common language of communication. The students developed a positive approach toward active learning. They were more successful in retaining the information delivered during the lecture. They were focused in the class and did not wait for lecture to end in a 2-hour lecture period; however, the students were passive and inattentive during traditional lectures because of their low ability to follow English. Furthermore, an advantage of this study was that the teacher instantly received feedback during the execution of these active-learning methods. In addition, the teacher could also identify the difficulties faced by the students.
