Forest fires in border areas: analysis of space patterns in mountain landscapes of the hispano-lusa central border

2019
In this study we have analyzed the patterns of occurrence of forest fires in the mountain landscapes of Central Hispano-Lusa border. The methodology has focused on the Hot Spots Analysis. Through a Grouping Analysis has been obtained a classification of the territory into four distinct groups. These groups are formed by combinations of the number of fires and the burned surface. This analysis reveals the existence of patterns that cross administrative boundaries. Clusters are formed with entities on either side of the border. This analysis reveals the existence of patterns that cross administrative boundaries. Clusters are formed with entities on either side of the border. The results show the vulnerability of mountain areas to fire risk, mainly due to their physical predisposition, but also due to the demographic and economic processes that generate similar scenarios. In these scenarios very diverse and even divergent factors on either side of the border, such as land uses or forest management, are relativized.
