Hydrogen Ion Role on the Reduction of Poly-(Neutral Red)
2017
From spectroscopic and voltammetric results obtained by means of coupled techniques, it is shown that the H+ ions play almost a four-fold roles in the electrochemistry of the poly-(Neutral Red): 1) They are involved in the reduction of double bonds which, in turn, affects the electrochromism in the visible range, 2) they drive the acid-base reaction of the monomeric unities, 3) they work as counter-cations and charge carrier through this polymer membrane and 4) chemically reacts with the located pairs of electrons on nitrogen of the amino groups for yielding H2.
