Effect of Oxygen on Tissue Temperature Gradients in the African Guinea Hog

African guinea hogs (Sus scrota, miniature variety) were exposed to an ambient temperature of 10 °C for 100 min. Temperatures at various depths in the rump were measured and the depth at which tissue temperature became equal to rectal temperature was calculated. It was found that breathing 100% oxygen increased this depth relative to the depth when air was breathed.
