In order to meet the changing demand at the distribution center at the market site, manufacturers often have to expedite the transportation by using more expensive transportation mode such as airplane instead of vessel. Given an origin and a destination, multiple routes are available, with respective lead times and unit transportation costs. In this study, we present a demand-driven inventory control model which determines the shipping amount for each route periodically so as to minimize the total cost, while maintaining a specific level of customer service by using the changing demand for a single product. We present a non-linear programming formulation and an approximated closed-form solution for the problem.
