Development of mobile and environmentally safe power sources based on fuel cell is impossible without creation of compact hydrogen generation system. In our article the analysis of hydrogen storage and hydrogen generation methods for proton exchange membrane fuel cell was carried out. Prospects of binary and complex hydrides as compact sources of hydrogen was shown. The accumulated knowledge about hydrogen generation systems based on hydrides and vast experience of work with these compounds allowed to develop hydrogen generators which have already found their consumer.
