ABS>The properties of approximately fifty materials which are useful in optical instrumentation in the infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum are described and compared. Each material is discussed in detail in terms of its optical, chemical, thermal, and mechanical properties. Tables and figures are given so that the properties of the various materials can be readily compared. (auth)
