Rheumatologic physiotherapy and rehabilitation is important in order to improve the quality of life and reduce symptoms and disability in patients. Given its complexity and effectiveness, it is essential to raise awareness in this area in our country. Therefore, the aim of this study was to retrospectively investigate the profiles of patients referred to the Rheumatologic Rehabilitation Unit of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty of Health Sciences, which serves in the inpatient service and outpatient clinic of the Rheumatology Department of Gazi University Training and Research Hospital. A total of 403 patients receiving outpatient (n=312, 77%) and inpatient (n=91, 23%) physiotherapy were included in the study. Demographic information, diagnosis, duration of disease and comorbidity of patients were recorded. The majority of patients receiving outpatient physiotherapy were diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis with 51%, and the majority of patients receiving inpatient treatment with systemic sclerosis with 35%. 78.7% (n=317) of the patients were referred to our unit for physiotherapy program due to musculoskeletal problems and 21.3% (n=86) due to cardiopulmonary system problems. 62.6% (n=57) of the patients who were consulted as hospitalized patients were referred to physiotherapy due to cardiopulmonary system problems. As a result of the study, it is found that the number of patients with prominent musculoskeletal problems is high, but physiotherapists can arrange treatments for findings related to other systems as well as musculoskeletal problems. We think that by increasing the awareness levels of rheumatologists who consult patients for physiotherapists, more patients can reach physiotherapy services.
