Photoelastic channel optical waveguides in epitaxial GaAs layers

Photoelastic channel optical waveguides have been fabricated in GaAs epitaxial layers. These waveguides exhibit strong lateral confinement in a single region of their cross-section. They compare favourably with previously demonstrated integrated optical waveguide structures.
