Analisis de la asociación del síndrome de fatiga crónica con los perfiles específicos de personalidad en una muestra de pacientes con esclerosis múltiple

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the neurodegenerative chronic diseases cause the most of progressive disability in early to middle adulthood. Among patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), fatigue is the most commonly reported symptom, and one of the most debilitating. The patients with chronic fatigue syndrome could have some characteristic traits of personality. The aim of this work was to study the relationship between personality traits s, depression and chronic fatigue in multiple sclerosis s patients and their evolution in the short term. METHODS: A total of 103 patients who made two visit with an average time interval of 17 months. They underwent a clinical assessment and were administered two fatigue scales (ESF y EIF), Hamilton depression test and the Minnesota personality questionnaire (MMPI2). The data were analyzed of regression logistic methods. RESULTS: Of the 103 patients; 62 completed the whole study (60.20%) and 41 were excluded (39.80%) mainly for not completing the personality questionnaire. Among patients, 86,4% did not report depressive symptoms and 33% manifested chronic fatigue. The group that filled in both MMPI2 in two visits; between 42 to 48% obtain clinically significant scores in hypochondriacal, depressive, hysterical, schizophrenic traits, with a tendency to social introversion, without changes in the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS: In our patients, who presented neurotic profile associated with schizophrenia traits on the MMPI2 scale manifested chronic fatigue more frequently without they do not report depressive’s symptomatology. Likewise, chronic fatigue was related to a higher EDSS.
