PAKISTAN'S PROPOSAL FOR A NUCLEAR-WEAPON-FREE ZONE IN SOUTH ASIA

Although a number of international efforts have been underway since the Second World War to control nuclear proliferation, nuclear armaments have continued to spread vertically and horizontally at an alarming pace. At present, the global nuclear arsenal's total explosive power is equivalent to that of approximately one million Hiroshimatype atom bombs.1 World military expenditure amounts to 2/5ths of the combined Gross Domestic Product of the developing world.2
