Some notes about the relationship between Bilingualism and Literacy concerning the teaching of Greek as a second language

Abstract Greece is being confronted with the problem of how to integrate various groups speaking mother tongues other than Greek into the school system. For these groups Greek represents a second language through which, according to official educational policy, the introduction to and the development of literacy should take place. There are a series of questions that are addressed in the following paper concerning the positive relationship that can develop between bilingualism and literacy in a way that affects education in general
