Silicon-based ceramic fibers
2008
This paper describes SiC, Si-Ti-C-O, Si-N-O and Si-N fibers. The tensile strength of SiC fibers obtained by the heat treatment above 1300 C of thermal oxidation-cured polycarbosilane fibers decreases rapidly with the increase of temperature. The improvement of high-temperature tensile strength has been studied using the electron irradiation curing process. The possibility of obtaining Sic fibers with higher tensile strength has been examined. Si-Ti-C-O fibers had higher heat resistance in comparison with that of SiC fibers. It has become apparent that tensile strength of Si-N-O fibers was influenced by the oxygen content. 13 references.
