Four sessions were held, at which the following papers were presented. Session 1: "Planned use of resources" includes: Some aspects of materials and energy in relation to electric powered transport; The availability of future fuels. Part 1: Hydrocarbon liquids from fossil sources; The availability of future fuels. Part 2: Electricity; Possible effects of economic changes upon future transport systems; City development and planning as aids to transport system design and energy conservation. Session 2: "Transport systems--range and recharging infrastructure" comprises: Operation of a modern trolley bus system: Part 1; Operation of a modern trolley bus system: Part 2; Operational requirements and technical development of an integrated transport system utilizing tramways, railway and metro; quick recharging or exchange of batteries: Technical and economic survey of the cost-price of energy; recharging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Session 3: "Comparative efficiency of transport systems" includes: Development of a hybrid electric vehicle using high vehicles-prospective fuels, technology and total efficiency; electronic controls for battery electric vehicles; designing purpose built electric vehicles--the total energy required for manufacture and use; electric vehicles, how do they compare with synthetic liquid fuels? Session 4: Investing and planning for the future includes; production costs changes arising from series production of electric vehicles; investing and planning for the transition to electric urban transportation; electric vehicles in a large city--future constraints and opportunities; the view of an elected member of the GLC. Discussions are appended to each session.
