Objectives: Most pediatric medullary thyroid cancers (MTC) result from dominantly inherited or de novo activating mutations in the Rearranged-during-transfection (RET) proto-oncogene.(1) Our group previously demonstrated that RET-positive MTC-derived cells have significantly increased mitochondrial respiratory chain molecules as compared to normal thyroid tissue.
