Open reduction and internal fixation versus minimally invasive reduction and internal fixation for calcaneal fracture

2007
Objective To investigate the effect of open reduction and internal fixation and minimally invasive reduction and internal fixation for calcaneal fracture. Methods 103 cases(103 feet)of calcaneal fractures were treated with open reduction and internal fixation and minimally invasive reduction and internal fixation. The effects were compared based on pre-and postoperative X-ray,CT films. Results The total excellent and good rate was 79.61%.In the cases with "L" incision and plate fixation, the results were excellent in 9 feet, good in 47,fair in 13 and poor in 2,and the excellent and good rate was 78.87%.In the cases with minimally invasive reduction and internal fixation with canulated screw, the results were excellent in 5 feet, good in 21,and fair in 6,and the excellent and good rate was 81.25%.Conclusions Limited incision for calcaneal fracture requires small incision, less soft tissue damage and is associated less complication."L" incision and plate fixation provides reliable fixation, which is indicated for calcaneal fracture with articular comminution.
