The utility model provides a wheel pressure monitoring system based on light propagation. The wheel pressure monitoring system is characterized by comprising a processor, a temperature sensor, an infrared light transmitter, an infrared light receiver, a storage, a wireless transmitter and a power module, wherein the processor is used for processing data fed back by each functional module connected with the processor and generating data coding for data transmission. According to the scheme provided by the utility model, a pressure sensing mode in the prior art is replaced with a mode of measuring the infrared light speed, so that the situation of high price of a pressure sensing chip in the traditional scheme is broken through, the overall cost and the maintenance cost of the wheel pressure monitoring system are greatly decreased; and a measuring result is slightly affected by sudden influences, the air pressure condition of a tyre is accurately reflected.
