Investigation of the wear resistance of metastable austenitic steels under dry sliding-friction conditions
1972
It was shown that steels with a metastable austenitic structure are more resistant to wear in dry sliding friction than stable austenitic steels or quenched 1Cr13-type ferritic-martensitic steels. The relatively high wear resistance of metastable austenitic steels is associated with the friction-induced formation of martensite in their surface layers.
