The absolute dimensions of the contact binary AW ursae majoris

Abstract We give a new method of determining the absolute dimensions of a contact binary based on minimum light times and applied it to the system AW UMa. This method is independent of spectroscopic data. Our results show that Rensing's model for correcting for closeness effect in spectral lines is applicable in this case.
