Perfil epidemiológico dos casos de tuberculose extrapulmonar no município de São Luís do Maranhão, 2005-2015.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Tuberculosis remains a major public health problem in Brazil. Since 2005, the Ministry of Health declared Tuberculosis a national priority, aiming at early diagnosis and treatment. However, its extrapulmonary form often presents itself as a challenge to national goals, for the broad clinical spectrum, severity of injuries and possible progression to death. Objectives: To describe and analyze the epidemiological profile of new cases of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in the municipality of Sao Luis in the historical series, 2005-2015. Methods: This work consists of a transversal, observational and descriptive epidemiological study of the new cases notifield of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in the municipality of Sao Luis (MA), Brazil, from 2005 to 2015. The research was conducted through secondary data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), available in the IT Department of the SUSDATASUS. Results: 876 cases of TBEP were reported and diagnosed in the period. The average incidence was 7.84 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The profile consisted of male (57.08%), age between 20 and 39 (47.95%), brown breed (66.67%) and low schooling. Regarding the evolution, the most common type of closure was the cure with 73.29% Conclusion: This study made it possible to know the characteristics of EPTB in Sao Luis, which contributes to the production of scientific knowledge about the disease and to help health services in the identification and monitoring the population with the greatest vulnerability to illness.
