Occurrence, damage and prevention measures of Scirpophaga excerptalis(Walker)in Youjiang district of Baise city

2015
【Objective】The incidence of dead-top cane caused by Scirpophaga excerptalis Walker was investigated and its effects on yield characters such as stalk length and stalk diameter and sugar content of sugarcane were estimated. Meanwhile, control strategies of Scirpophaga excerptalis were provided in order to promote sustainable development of sugarcane industry. 【 Method 】 In this study, five- point sampling method was used to investigate the incidence of dead-top cane in the local leading variety ROC22. The indexes of stalk length, stalk diameter, millable cane and brix of cane juice were determined in the field. 【 Result 】 The results showed that the average incidence of dead- top cane caused by Scirpophaga excerptalis was up to 74.87%. The stalk length of dead-top cane was 34.65 cm lower than healthy cane, and the yield loss of dead-top cane was up to 21.23%. The significance analysis indicated that there were no significant differences among stalk diameters instead of stalk length. The juice brix and sugar content from dead-top canes was 1.45% and 1.57% lower than healthy canes, respectively. Meanwhile, there was significant difference in juice brix and sugar content between healthy cane and dead-top cane. 【Conclusion】Scirpophaga excerptalis has become an important economic pest in Youjiang district of Baise city. The occurrence of Scirpophaga excerptalis can cause the losses in cane yield and sugar content.
