Interface structure of directionally solidified CoO-ZrO{sub 2}(Y{sub 2}O{sub 3}) eutectic

The interface structure of directionally solidified CoO-ZrO{sub 2}(Y{sub 2}O{sub 3}) eutectic was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. The interface of the lamella was found to have the orientation relationship of (001) cubic ZrO{sub 2} // (111) CoO and steps with periodic spacing. Precipitation of the Co{sub 3}O{sub 4} or Co phase was observed at the interface between cubic ZrO{sub 2} and CoO under experimental atmospheric conditions during directional solidification and successive cooling.
