The improvement in the quality of life, combined with the decline in birth rates, has contributed to increased life expectancy in developing countries such as Brazil, and, consequently, an increase in the number of elderly. These changes in the demographic structure of the population are influencing several social and economic factors, particularly health care. Considering the diversity and complexity of elderly patients, an interdisciplinary health team becomes fundamental, as it enables the integration of specific knowledge in several areas with the common purpose of promoting and maintaining the health of the elderly.
