Mycobacterium hiberniae is a species of the phylum Actinobacteria (Gram-positive bacteria with high guanine and cytosine content, one of the dominant phyla of all bacteria), belonging to the genus Mycobacterium. Etymology Hibernia, Latin for Ireland where it was first isolated. Polymorphic, beaded, gram-positive, nonmotile and acid-fast rods (0.9 µm x 1.2-1.5 µm).
