Ependymin

Ependymin is a glycoprotein associated with the consolidation of long-term memory, possibly providing protection from strokes, and contributing to neuronal regeneration. This encoded protein was originally detected in elevated amounts of fluid within the central nervous system of teleost fishes. Along with long-term memory and neuronal regeneration, ependymin has been connected to specific aspects of changes in signaling within nerve cells leading to brain plasticity, as well as behavioral performance in response to environment stress in fishes.
