Ultrasonically Assisted Preparation of Polysaccharide Microcontainers for Hydrophobic Drugs

Stable polysaccharide microcontainers are fabricated by ultrasonically assisted procedure. Ultrasound induces formation of permanent microcontainer shell due to interaction between chitosan and xanthan gum. The obtained system has a core-shell structure with high loading capacity for hydrophobic molecules. The permanent polymer shell thickness of 7-10 nm allows to maintain the microcontainer stability for more than 4 months. The microcontainers in a wide size range of 350-7500 nm were obtained by changing an overall emulsion viscosity. Uptake of the microcontainers by mouse melanoma M3 cells was studied by flow cytometry and confocal microcscopy.

Hydrogenstorage materials protected by a polymer shell

A simple approach for the protection of hydrogen storage materials is based on interfacial polymer precipitation induced by solvent evaporation. Sodium borohydride is successfully protected with a polystyrene shell by co-precipitation. This shell provides a hydrophobic barrier for water diffusion into the container interior. Simultaneous nucleation of sodium borohydride inside the droplets of the disperse phase and formation of a surrounding polystyrene shell during gradual solvent evaporation led to the development of structures consisting of a sodium borohydride core and a polymer shell. Confocal fluorescence microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy reveal the crystalline interior and polymer shell of the fabricated microcontainers. FTIR spectroscopy proves the presence of a sodium borohydride core and a polystyrene shell. The stability of sodium borohydride microcontainers is increased as compared to the unprotected material by 2.5 times during storage at 100% humidity.

Биологическая активность нанокомпозита селена, инкапсулированного в макромолекулы каррагинана, по отношению к возбудителю кольцевой гнили и растениям картофеля in vitro

Изучено влияние нанокомпозита селена, инкапсулированного в матрицу каррагинана (НК Se/Кар), на бактерию, вызывающую кольцевую гниль картофеля Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus (Cms), и растения картофеля in vitro. По данным электронной микроскопии НК Se/Кар состоит из сферических наночастиц селена широкого диапазона размерности, образующих агрегаты. Обнаружено, что нанокомпозит не обладает бактериостатической и антибиопленочной активностью в отношении бактерий Cms. Эксперименты, проведенные на растениях, показали стимулирующее влияние НК Se/Кар на биометрические показатели и снижение негативного эффекта заражения картофеля Cms. Установлено незначительное накопление селена в тканях картофеля после его обработки НК Se/Кар (0.01–0.03% воздушно-сухой массы). Полученные результаты позволяют рассматривать НК Se/Кар как агент для стимуляции развития сельскохозяйственных растений.
