‘Angel in the house’ is an idealized icon of Victorian women, who unconditionally loved, supported and submitted to their husbands. Borrowing this metaphor, I discuss three kinds of angels in colonial botany, which was intrinsically patriarchal. The first consists of metropolitan women, who never travelled, but celebrated and consumed trophies of colonial botany in their domestic life in Europe, such as planting exotics in backyards, cooking foreign diets in kitchens, reading botanical and travel literature, collecting foreign specimens in cabinets and sponsoring naturalists. The second covers elegant botanical wives in colonies, accomplished in domestic responsibilities while engaging in botany as polite learning. The third is made up of voyaging botanical women, exempted from domestic responsibilities and completely devoted to botany. These angels often corresponded with elite botanists, botanized under their instruction and made contributions to botanical science. All three categories endorsed the agenda of imperialism and their study of botany was facilitated by its power.
Abstract This chapter introduces readers to some of the politics of representing development in the traditionally pastoral Mongol community of Uxin Ju in the Ordos region of northern China. In researching Uxin Ju's grassland campaign, the chapter traces the discovery of a set of propaganda documents produced by the local government. These Uxin Ju documents speak to a larger question of archival collection in studying modern China. Furthermore, as these documents were propaganda at best, analysis had become difficult. Through these documents the chapter jumpstarts a discussion into the related issue of authenticity in fieldwork collections. Thus the chapter shows how, given the historical effects of Maoist political programs in this region, at best, only “partial truths” can be gleaned from ethnography.
Based on the theory and methods of ergonomics, The Human factors such as shape, button, information indicating, the functional arrangement, color and material of small household electrical appliances-Media FS60-6AR landing tower fans were deeply analysed and studied, the study explained that design of their own should be in accordance with the relevant requirements of ergonomics. In the finally, raise the inadequate factors and solution to the problem.
Based on analyzing the Vasicek stochastic interest model,we transform the long-run mean, the fluctuation rate and the mean restoration which are constant into fixed functions about t.In this assumption,we build a new model by solving a partial differential equation based on the Extended Vasicek interest model.Furthermore,we give the bond-pricing formula of discounted bond-choose with a face time T and pay one Yuan by using Ito Lemma and build the constitute of the bond.
The pricing formulas of European Call option and the put-call party relation in a completed and continuously marketed model are imtroduced and studied,in which the process of asset price is assumed to be Vasicek model with a fixed finction about time.By using It formula and Black-Schole's risk-neutral valuation principle, the pricing of standard European contingent claims is studied.
Abstract Before Coming to America: Before coming to America, I was a first-year junior high-school student [the equivalent of the seventh grade—Ed.]. My school was a magnet school in Shanghai. To me, studies were easy. I could almost complete my homework at school and do whatever I liked after returning home. I was praised by my teachers, liked by my schoolmates, and loved by my parents. At school, my grades were excellent, and I had wide interests. I was a role model to my schoolmates, and I got along very well with them. At home, I was an obedient and beloved child. I did not have to do any housework. Food, clothing—everything was ready for me. My requests were always granted. Before coming to America, I had never experienced any setbacks. I lived in a happy environment and was very satisfied with myself. Many people asked me, "Who is your icon?" And I always answered: "Myself." I worshipped myself and loved myself more than anyone else. It is very important for a person to like himself/herself. Sometimes I felt I was different from other people and even had some kind of vision. During the summer vacation after the first year of junior middle school, my mother was busy attending to the procedures for going to America. I was always imagining: "What kind of place is America? Is it interesting?" I did not know what it would be like to live in America. I felt a little uncertain, but I was also very excited.
