Background: Ovarian cancer (OC) is the most frequent cause of deaths in gynecologic malignancies. Mechanisms have been proposed via RNAseq and DNAseq technique recently. However, the driving factors are still obscure. The possible reasons are attributed to the incomplete human reference. Methods: This study integrated the mapping-based and mapping-free protocol to achieve a comprehensive analysis of OC patients.Findings: We eventually obtained 450 reliable single nucleotide variants (SNVs) from the whole exome sequencing (WES) data and novel events from the RNAseq data, including 154 SNVs, 462 intron events, two repeats and six splice events. We identified six differentially expressed genes and six contigs that are significantly related to survival prognosis. Interpretation: This study integrated the mapping-based and mapping-free protocol to achieve comprehensive analysis of OC patients. Both RNAseq and WES data were applied to obtain novel transcriptional events and convincing SNVs. The novel events were validated using an independent cohort of 20 Chinese OC patients.Funding: This study was supported by the Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province (Grant No. Q20H160028, LYY19H310001), Medical and Health Research Project of Zhejiang Province (2020KY059, 2021KY589).Declaration of Interests: The authors declare that they have no competing interests.Ethics Approval Statement: All procedures performed in this study involving human participants were consistent with the ethics standards of the Declaration of Helsinki and its later amendments or comparable ethics standards. The ethics committee of Zhejiang Cancer Hospital approved this study. All tissues were collected from the biobank of Zhejiang Cancer Hospital (Reference number IRB-2019-5).
Social media platforms and the forms of vernacular expression they support invite citizens to emotionally react to political content. This study focuses on the affective networks of emoji use in the Facebook comment threads on 18 politicians’ public pages before the Finnish 2019 parliamentary elections. We aim to generate a holistic understanding of the use of emojis in campaign communications while providing a more profound understanding of the affective practices emerging in specific contexts, such as in relation to particular political actors. We analyze the data using computational methods and network analysis and complement this with qualitative analysis. The results indicate that emojis are used to connect with ideological coalitions across the parties and to reinforce connections with political actors. Particular emojis become distinctive emotional-political signifiers whose connotations have departed from their original denotations and are formed and shared in specific communities in relation to specific actors.
Aiming at the problems of shrinking cracks in the cement-stabilized macadam base course, through substantive experiments this article discusses the influence of the factors such as the cement content, fly ash content, aggregate gradation and admixture content on drying and temp performances of the cement-stabilized macadam mixture base course, and proposes the suggested aggregate gradation and content of each factor.
Bismuth oxyhalides with layered structures have emerged as an important class of photocatalysts but usually suffer from low activity largely due to their unfavorable band structures. Although point defects as typical electronic structure modifiers have been actively used to modify electronic structures of photocatalysts for high photocatalytic activity, the underlying role of halogen vacancies in improving activity of bismuth oxyhalides has been overlooked. In this study, we demonstrate the substantial role of iodine vacancies in enabling photocatalytic activity of BiOI as a model oxyhalide photocatalyst. It is found that iodine vacancies cause a 0.23 eV downward shift of the valence band maximum of BiOI but not much change in the bandgap. Such band structure modification leads to the formation of photogenerated holes with a stronger oxidative ability, which is favorable for photocatalysis with the holes induced half reaction as a rate-determining step. The results obtained might provide an important implication in designing highly efficient oxyhalide-based photocatalysts by controlling halogen vacancies.
Ovarian cancer is the most frequent cause of deaths in gynecologic malignancies. Many possible mechanisms have been proposed via RNAseq and DNAseq technique recently. However, the driving factors are still obscure. The possible reasons are attributed to the incomplete human reference. This study integrated the canonical mapping-based and mapping-free protocols to extract reliable variations and novel events. We eventually obtained 450 reliable SNVs from the WES data and novel events from the RNAseq data, including 154 SNVs, 462 intron events, two repeats and six splice events. We identified six differentially expressed genes and six contigs that are significantly related to survival prognosis. The recurrent SNVs in significantly differentially expressed genes can be validated in an independent cohort of 20 Chinese ovarian cancer patients.
