Combined channel segmentation and buffer insertion for routability and performance improvement of field programmable analog arrays

In this paper, we propose a combined channel segmentation and buffer insertion approach, which minimizes the number of buffers inserted while satisfying the delay constraints for routing channels of field-programmable analog arrays. A segmented routing algorithm based on minimum-cost-bipartite-matching is improved with demand awareness and used to evaluate the various routing channels generated. Experiments show that, compared to a sequential segmenting-then-buffering design, our approach can significantly reduce the total number of buffers required, while achieving improved routability and minimum average interconnect delay. It is also shown that by increasing the number of long segment appropriately, the algorithm can dramatically improve the routability with a moderate increase on the number of buffers.

Noise and Performance Analysis of Fiber-Longitudinal Power Profile Estimation

Previous investigations have preliminarily revealed that the two main methods of fiber-longitudinal power profile estimation (PPE), the correlation-based (CM) and minimum-mean-square-error-based (MMSE) methods, show different performance and noise robustness. To thoroughly comprehend the PPE behavior in the presence of stochastic noise, this study introduces the first comprehensive noise analysis of CM-PPE and MMSE-PPE. By introducing a novel metric, the profile-to-noise ratio (PNR), we derive equations verifying that the CM-PPE offers enhanced noise tolerance at the expense of reduced power profile fidelity, whereas MMSE-PPE exhibits the converse characteristics. Moreover, a further noise analysis is also performed with the real-time assumption that the number of processed samples per block is limited and the profiles output by different processing blocks are averaged. Based on the theoretical expressions and the aid of numerical simulation, we confirm that the conventional averaging operation is suitable for CM-PPE, while MMSE-PPE needs to modify the averaging implementation structure for a more stable estimation. Our theoretical insights facilitate a deeper comprehension of PPE, paving the way for its real-time application.

Construction of automatic elucidation platform for mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine

Aim at the two problems in the field of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) mechanism elucidation, one is the lack of detailed biological processes information, next is the low efficient in constructing network models, we constructed an auxiliary elucidation system for the TCM mechanism and realize the automatic establishment of biological network model. This study used the Entity Grammar Systems (EGS) as the theoretical framework, integrated the data of formulae, herbs, chemical components, targets of component, biological reactions, signaling pathways and disease related proteins, established the formal models, wrote the reasoning engine, constructed the auxiliary elucidation system for the TCM mechanism elucidation. The platform provides an automatic modeling method for biological network model of TCM mechanism. It would be benefit to perform the in-depth research on TCM theory of natures and combination and provides the scientific references for R&D of TCM.

Digital Backpropagation for Subcarrier-Multiplexing Systems With Nonlinearity Compensation Fusion

A novel simplified implementation structure is proposed for digital backpropagation in digital subcarrier-multiplexing systems (SCM-DBP) and one of its modifications, the SCM-DBP with infinite impulse response filters and reduced number of interfering subcarriers (IIR-RS-SCM-DBP). To the best of our knowledge, it is the first time to convert the serial calculation and compensation of self-subcarrier nonlinearity (SSN) and cross-subcarrier nonlinearity (CSN) to a parallel calculation and a fused compensation without affecting the nonlinear compensation (NLC) effectiveness. The performance is verified by a 9-channel wavelength-division multiplexing coherent numerical system with 120-GBaud 8-subcarrier dual-polarization 16QAM signal in each channel after 1600-km transmission. After verifying the robustness to multiple impairments, SCM-DBP adopting the fusion structure provides the same performance as before but saves about 4.5% NLC complexity. IIR-RS-SCM-DBP (4 interfering subcarriers) with the fusion structure provides about 10.8% NLC complexity reduction compared with the original IIR-RS-SCM-DBP, and about 63% NLC complexity reduction compared to SCM-DBP with about 0.16 dB penalty of

Reliable laser programmable gate array technology

Field-programmable gate arrays have become popular ever since their introduction. Compared to other digital circuit implementation media, they have lower non-recurring engineering (NRE) cost and rapid turnaround with the penalties of reduced speed and larger size. Thus better FPGA programmable switch technology is desired in order to gain speed and density advantages. In this paper, laser-induced MakeLink/spl trade/ technology is proposed as a programmable switch element. The electrical resistance is as low as 0.8 /spl Omega/ to 11 /spl Omega/, depending on the size of the link, which is 2-3 orders smaller than that of NMOS transistor in a SRAM based FPGA. Thus the speed improvement for laser field-programmable gate array (LFPGA) is significant. Other features of laser-induced vertical links technology, such as small size and radiation hardness, can also greatly improve the FPGA performance. The cluster-based LFPGA with 128 by 64 basic logic elements (BLE) is laid out under a 0.5 /spl mu/m commercialized technology. The chip size is about 138 mm/sup 2/.

A Deep Neural Network-Based Assistive Decision Method for Financial Risk Prediction in Carbon Trading Market

The price of carbon emission rights in the market fluctuates greatly due to various factors from economy, finance, and climate. For an enterprise that needs to conduct carbon trading activities, it is extremely necessary to fully grasp the price of carbon trading in the future period. Thus in this paper, a deep neural network-based assistive decision model for financial risk prediction in carbon trading market is proposed for this purpose. Specifically, the dynamic risk spillover effects of domestic and international carbon trading markets are studied, and a frontier time-varying model is utilized to measure the risk spillover effects. Then, the deep neural network is used for quantitative research and to construct an intelligent decision scheme that outputs financial risk prediction results. Four perspectives, energy price, climate environment, carbon market price, and macroeconomics, are selected as the input to analyze the influence factors of carbon emission rights price. Finally, several linear regression models are adopted as the baseline methods for comparison, and experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve better prediction performance compared with baseline methods.

Modified Weighted Learned Digital Backpropagation with Pre-optimization in High-symbol-rate Coherent Systems

A modified weighted learned digital backpropagation (M-W-LDBP) with pre-optimization is proposed for fiber nonlinearity compensation in high-symbol-rate coherent systems. Compared with LDBP, M-W-LDBP exhibits 1/0.7 dB signal-to-noise ratio gain in 90/128-GBaud systems, respectively.

A Continuous-Time Laser Programmable Analog Array for Radiation Environments

This paper presents the design of a high performance, radiation hard Laser Programmable Analog Array (LPAA) using LaserLink’s MakeLink™ technology. Radiation hardness is achieved through the use of an advanced Silicon-on-Sapphire (SOS) fabrication process. The programming of the analog array is achieved through the use of laser via formation, which has extremely low resistance, negligible capacitance and full compatibility with commercial CMOS processes. The proposed LPAA consists of a 4 x 2 array of Configurable Analog Blocks (CABs) surrounded by abundant interconnect resources. There are 12 PAD groups around the chip, and 8 tracks per X/Y channel. Each CAB has 4 input and 4 output pins with internal circuit operating in fully differential mode. The high performance amplifier provides a usable bandwidth of 12MHz. With appropriate programming, the LPAA can provide an accurate, low-cost and rapid-prototyping analog ASIC solution.
