Polymérisation du méthacrylate de méthyle en solution et en bloc

Abstract La polymérisation du méthacrylate de méthyle en solution est fortement influencée par le pouvoir dissolvant du milieu de réaction; à des concentrations de 32,9 p. 100 de monomère, la réaction suit un ordre apparent de premier ordre, par rapport au monomère, si le polymère est soluble dans le solvant. Dans le cas contraire, la réaction subit une accélération notable, concomitamment à une augmentation considérable du poids moléculaire; ces deux effets sont attribués à une diminution de la vitesse de rupture au sein du milieu très visqueux. Par des essais de polymérisation en bloc du méthacrylate de méthyle pur et en présence de nitrobenzène, comme inhibiteur, cette explication est confirmée. La polydispersité des produits ainsi obtenus a été établie; il se manifeste deux maxima nets dans la courbe de répartition en poids des polymères fractionnés.

Characterization of the crystallization behavior of the eutectic‐forming binary system polyoxyethylene and glutaric acid. I. melting and crystallization behavior

Abstract The crystallization characteristics of the binary system polyoxyethylene (PEO)‐glutaric acid were determined. From the extrapolated melting point depression data the heat of fusion for PEO is 2506 ± 200 cal/mole of repeat unit while the heat of solution for the glutaric acid amounts to 6.7 ± 1.2 cal/cm 3 . A melting point of 348 K is found for the high‐molecular‐weight PEO. A calorimetric glass‐transition temperature for mixtures of the two components is relatively independent of the melt composition and appears at 217 K. A eutectic is observed whose composition and melting temperature depend on the nature of the PEO crystal phase.

Tetrachlorobisphenol‐A adipate polymers. I. Crystallization of poly(tetrachlorobisphenol‐A adipate)

Abstract The properties of melt‐crystallized poly(tetrachlorobisphenol‐A adipate) were studied by using a differential scanning calorimeter. The dependence of melting point and the degree of crystallinity are reported as a function of the crystallization conditions. The heat of fusion is equal to 8.1 kcal/mole, while the equilibrium melting point, as determined by extrapolation, is 283°C. The polymer crystallized from the melt has a maximum degree of crystallinity of 0.53.
