Consistency and Security in Mobile Real Time Distributed Database (MRTDDB): A Combinational Giant Challenge

Many type of Information System are widely used in various fields. With the hasty development of computer network, Information System users care more about data sharing in networks. In traditional relational database, data consistency was controlled by consistency control mechanism when a data object is locked in a sharing mode, other transactions can only read it, but can not update it. If the traditional consistency control method has been used yet, the system's concurrency will be inadequately influenced. So there are many new necessities for the consistency control and security in MRTDDB. The problem not limited only to type of data (e.g. mobile or real‐time databases). There are many aspects of data consistency problems in MRTDDB, such as inconsistency between attribute and type of data; the inconsistency of topological relations after objects has been modified. In this paper, many cases of consistency are discussed. As the mobile computing becomes well liked and the database grows with information sharing security is a big issue for researchers. Consistency and Security of data is a big challenge for researchers because when ever the data is not consistent and secure no maneuver on the data (e.g. transaction) is productive. It becomes more and more crucial when the transactions are used in non‐traditional environment like Mobile, Distributed, Real Time and Multimedia databases. In this paper we raise the different aspects and analyze the available solution for consistency and security of databases. Traditional Database Security has focused primarily on creating user accounts and managing user privileges to database objects. But in the mobility and nomadic computing uses these database creating a new opportunities for research. The wide spread use of databases over the web, heterogeneous client‐server architectures, application servers, and networks creates a critical need to amplify this focus. In this paper we also discuss an overview of the new and old database security challenges.

Scope and Analysis of Distributed Real Time Replicated Database Models & their Performance

The Criteria for transaction consistency adopted for the management persistent replicated objects in a distributed system define the degree of concurrency allowed among operations accessing objects. Several notions of consistency are known from the literature among them are causal consistency causal serializability and serializability. After surveying and analyzing the available database models for replicated database, we propose a new transactional model for Hybrid transaction model to specialize the generalizing algorithm for concurrency control in a transaction system that exhibits a clean separation between policy and mechanism. A consistency criterion selected is manifested as a set of rules forming the policy. The mechanism however remains unchanged regardless of the currently used policy. It implements causally consistent message delivery and uses tokens and quorums of tokens to enforce access operation ordering according to the specified consistency criterion. An example of an application exploiting the advantages of dynamically switching among various consistency criteria concludes.

Mobile distributed real time database systems: A research challenges

Morden Electronics devices and electronic commerce applications characterized by high volume of transactions can't survive without an online support of computer system and database technology. It gave birth to distributed real-time database systems, a new form of distributed database system, in which, transactions have deadlines or timing constraints. Again, the rapid growth in Mobile Computing Technology has provided a new platform for Distributed Real Time Database Systems (DRTDBS). DRTDBS are becoming ubiquitous and critical component in mobile environment today. More recently, it emerges as mobile real time database systems (MDRTDBS) in the world of lightweight intelligent devices like palmtops, cellular phones, car computers, smart cards etc. Processing of transaction with mobility as well as time constraints has opened up a new area of research with a number of design issues such as network connectivity, storage capacity, scheduling, data consistency, data replication & distribution, concurrency control & commit processing, reliability, security, economical aspect etc. In fact, this paper first discusses the performance issues that are important to MDRTDBS, and then surveys the research that has been done so far. In fact, this study provides a foundation for addressing performance issues important for the management of very large mobile real time data and pointer to other publications in journals and conference proceedings for further investigation of unanswered research questions.
