Fully analog iteration for solving matrix equations with in-memory computing

Memristive in-memory computing has demonstrated potential for solving matrix equations in scientific computing. However, the inherent inaccuracies of analog mechanisms create challenges in achieving high-precision solutions while maintaining low-energy consumption. This study introduces a memristive matrix equation solver that considerably accelerates solutions by performing mathematical iterations directly within an analog domain. Our approach facilitates rapid approximate solutions with a scalable circuit topology and expedites the high-precision refinement process by substantially reducing the digital-to-analog conversion overhead. We experimentally validated this methodology using a heterogeneous computing system. We performed simulations of multiple scientific problems on these circuits, including solving the diffusion equation and modeling equilibration in silicon P-N junctions. Notably, our memristive solver, combined with digital refinement, achieved software-equivalent precision (with an error of 10 −12 ). Compared to conventional digital processing units, this approach offered a 128-fold improvement in solution speed and a 160-fold reduction in energy consumption. This work establishes a foundation for future scientific computing using imprecise analog devices.

Design of face-to-face optical wireless power transmission system based on robot arm visual tracking

OWPT (Optical Wireless Power Transmission) system is composed of light sources such as lasers and LEDs, which are used as transmitters to convert electric power to optical power. Solar cells are used as receivers to convert the optical power back into electric power that can be used as a power supply for electronic devices. The OWPT technology utilizes the small size and divergence angle of laser beams to transmit high power density over longer distances compared to other WPT methods. In the previous study of OWPT system, we studied the combination of a camera and Galvano mirror for target recognition and moving target prediction. However, such design imposes a challenge on the OWPT system, which is, when the object moves a certain distance, refraction occurs as the laser strikes the surface of the solar cells acting as the receiver. Such mismatch could result in further decline in energy transmission efficiency. Therefore, face-to-face tracking is necessary. In this research, we applied a robot arm to enlarge the range of motion and ensure proper alignment between the transmitter and the receiver. More specifically, we have achieved recognition and successful tracking of moving 2D objects using a robotic arm and camera. Subsequently, we successfully solved the problem of object orientation detection in 3D space using Aruco markers.

Energy-Efficient ReRAM-Based High-Precision Discrete Fourier Transform for Image Reconstruction

In this work, we implemented the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) using a Pt/Al 2 O 3 /AlO x /W resistive random-access memory (ReRAM) for high-precision signal processing. By introducing the bit-slicing method, the ReRAM devices are capable of overcoming the imprecise analog computing limitation and can achieve software-comparable processing precision. Validated through the image reconstruction tasks, the ReRAM technology is demonstrated to achieve reconstruction quality virtually equivalent to 8-bit integer precision. Furthermore, this work is evaluated to achieve an energy efficiency of 622 GOPS/W, which is 22× higher than the state-of-the-art digital processors. We expect the ReRAM-technology can be further employed to perform more complex signal processing tasks with high efficiency in practical applications.

Multitarget detection for single-base co-prime MIMO radar

The issue of target detection for the single-base co-prime MIMO radar is studied, and propose a target detection algorithm for fusion of 2D-FFT algorithm and Unitary Root-MUSIC algorithm. Compared with the traditional MIMO radar, the coprime MIMO radar is able to enhance the virtual degrees of freedom by increasing the array element spacing, thus improving the angular resolution of target detection. The algorithm utilizes a co-prime array as the transceiver array of the radar, and adopts 2D-FFT target detection algorithm to obtain the target's Range Doppler map (RD map), then performs peak detection on the target's RD map to obtain the target's distance and velocity information. Finally, the Unitary Root- MUSIC algorithm is used to solve the target DOA information. Under the condition of the same number of array elements, the DOA estimation performance of the co-prime MIMO array outperforms that of the uniform MIMO array and the conventional uniform line array.
