Advance Biodegradable Polymer Composite Materials for Biomedical Additive Manufacturing Applications

In the present period there has been an increasing awareness of the utilization of cost-effective greener resources to design biodegradable polymer composite materials in biomedical additive manufacturing (AM) applications owing to their excellent physical and mechanical properties, lightweight, high strength, stiffness, fatigue, and good corrosion resistance compared to the metal and ceramics materials. On the other hand, the production of bioplastic-based products increased to approximately 30% due to their remarkable role to diminish the greenhouse effect and petroleum-based pollution. Nevertheless, biodegradable polymers are renewable substitutes for petroleum-based AM materials with various advantages such as being biocompatible, biodegradable, bioresorbable, non-toxic, recyclable, and exhibiting better mechanical properties. This chapter discusses the design and preparation of biodegradable polymer composites for AM biomedical applications with different techniques.

Space vector PWM based inverter

The aim of this paper is to obtain the AC voltage from DC source with the help of Space vector based Inverter. In a space-vector PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) inverter, which is widely used, the voltage utilization factor can be increased to 0.906, normalized to that of the six step operation. Three phase voltage-source pulse width modulation inverters have been widely used for dc/ac power conversion since they can produce a variable voltage and variable frequency power. However, they require a dead time to avoid the arm-short and snubber circuits to suppress the switching spike. Apart from these ancillary aspects, the PWM inverters have an essential problem that they cannot produce voltages as large as the six-step inverters can. That is, the dc bus voltage cannot be utilized to the maximum. To increase the voltage utilization of the sinusoidal PWM inverter, a method of the addition of the third harmonics to the reference voltage was proposed by which the fundamental component can be increased by 15.5%. In a space-vector PWM inverter, which is widely used, the voltage utilization factor can be increased to 0.906, normalized to that of the sixstep operation. On the other hand, different discontinuous PWM strategies were analyzed, where the modulation waveform of a phase has at least one segment of 60 which is clamped to the positive and/or negative dc bus for, at most, a total of 120 in a fundamental period during which no switching in either inverter arm occurs. Recently, it is shown that discontinuous PWM schemes and the space-vector PWM can be obtained by properly adding a zero-sequence voltage to the original modulation waveform.

Renewable Resource-Based Epoxy Vitrimer Composites for Future Application: A Comprehensive Review

The composites industry is now turning to a new sustainable material called a biobased epoxy vitrimer. This material is a great substitute for traditional petroleum-based thermosets, which are not recyclable and cause environmental pollution and CO2 emissions. On the other hand, biobased epoxy vitrimers are a sustainable option due to their recyclability, reprocessability, and repairability properties. Recent research has emphasized developing biobased epoxy vitrimers derived from vegetable oil, lignin, vanillin, etc. The covalent adaptation networks and material properties of these epoxy vitrimers have also been explored. This review examines the current trends in used biobased epoxy vitrimer materials in several applications such as adhesives, coatings, shape memory, self-healing, and composites. The review aims to provide proper guidelines for the preparation of biobased epoxy vitrimers that can significantly contribute to the sustainable development of biobased vitrimer research.
