Analysis of Relationship between Lateral Stability and Dynamic Characteristic of Continuous Welded Rail Track

The axial buckling threshold force of continuous welded rail (CWR) depends on lateral stability of railway track. The conventional CWR buckling models are based on track static parameters and behavior. In this paper, a dynamic finite element model for investigating the relationship between the rail nature frequencies and the critical buckling axial force of CWR track is presented. This model consists of rails, sleepers and foundation, and covers factors of interest such as track curvature, supporting distance between adjoining sleepers. With the new dynamic model, numerical computations and analyses are performed. The correlations among the critical axial force of rail, the lateral stability and the nature frequencies of CWR track are studied. The computational results of the new dynamic model show a great agreement with the field testing results.

Stable Analysis of CWR Track by its Vibration Characteristics

Stress contained in rails, mainly due to thermally-induced expansion and contraction, results in large longitudinal loads which lead to broken rails and track buckling. According to the beam bending theory of structural dynamics with a consideration of the influence of axial load, a CWR track model is developed in the present study to be used for extensive buckling analysis of CWR tracks. The model discusses CWR track vibration characteristics with a length of unsupported rail subjected to the longitudinal force due to fluctuation of temperature. From the result, it can be gotten that the critical point of the temperature which may cause the rail have the danger of unstable. This model would help to evaluated and measure the real temperature in rail by analyzing the dynamic response of CWR track.

Dynamic Characteristic Analysis of Irregularity under Turnout by Vehicle-Turnout Rigid-Flexible Coupling Model

Finite element model of track in frog zone is built by vehicle-turnout system dynamics. Considering variation of rail section and elastic support, bending deformation of turnout sleeper, spacer block and sharing pad effects, the track integral rigidity distribution in longitudinal direction is calculated in the model. Vehicle-turnout rigid-flexible coupling model is built by finite element method (FEM), multi-body system (MBS) dynamics and Hertz contact theory. With the regularity solution that different stiffness is applied for rubber pad under sharing pad of different turnout sleeper zone, analysis the variation of vertical acceleration of bogie and wheelset, rail vertical displacement and wheel-rail interaction force, this paper proves that setting reasonable rubber pad stiffness is an efficient method to solve rigidity irregularity problem.

A Dynamic Characteristic Analysis of Continuous Welded Rail Track under Different Longitudinal Stress

The paper presents a dynamic computational model and field test for analyzing the relationship between the rail natural frequencies and the longitudinal temperature stress by means of the finite element method. The essay use the infinite Timoshenko beam as the plane model to simulate continuous welded rail track structure and the rail model by means of the finite element method in order to its unit as a division of space elastomer. The test uses vertical incentive and horizontal incentive to encourage continuous welded rail track structure to get the rail natural frequencies. The measured data and the result of finite element analysis are compared, finds the results are consistent. The paper not only investigates the relationship between the rail’s dynamic characteristics and the longitudinal stress, but also provides a feasible method for test longitudinal stress of continuous welded rail track.

Dynamic Property Analysis of Damping Rubber in Rail Fastenings under Different Deformation Condition

This paper studies the experimental research on dynamic characteristics of the damping rubber in high elastic fastening by the electro-hydraulic servo movement tester. Based on a hypothesis superposition theory of nonlinear elastic restoring force and nonlinear damping force, a non-linear dynamic mechanical model is proposed. The dynamic stiffness and damping parameters of the rubber are obtained in different deformation conditions based on the dynamic mechanical model. The dynamic stiffness is analyzed, and the results show that dynamic stiffness is closely related to excitation frequency and amplitude. Furthermore the dynamic stiffness is analyzed under different free surface of rubber components by using FEM. That also reveals the changeable characteristics and affected factors of the damping rubber of the high elastic fastenings in large distortion condition.

Dynamic Property Analysis of Rubber Absorber in Rail Fastenings of Different Force Condition

This paper studies the dynamic property of rubber absorber in rail fastening by electro-hydraulic testing machine. Two different types of rail fastening are tested. In one fastening the rubber component is in compressed condition (RCRF). While in another the rubber is in sheared (RSRF). A nonlinear dynamic model of rubber absorber in rail fastening is proposed. The model parameters are obtained by the least square method. The accuracy of the obtained model is verified by measured result. The two results are in good agreement. The dynamic stiffness and damping are analyzed, and the results show that dynamic stiffness and damping are closely related to the frequency and amplitude of excitation. Nonlinear characteristic becomes greater with increasing excitation amplitude for the both rail fastenings. For different excitation frequency, the vibration reduction effect of RSRF is more stable than that of RCRF.
