Syringoma is common benign neoplasm that is mostly seen around the eyes. However these tumors can occur in atypical locations such as the axilla.Although the axilla is possible site for syringoma, no previous case of syringoma limited to the axilla has been reported in Korea. We report here on a case of syringoma that appeared as grouped yellowbrownish papules limited to the axillae of a 24-year-old woman.(Ann Dermatol 22(1) 85∼87, 2010) -
Bednar's tumour (BT) is a rare variant of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP). In addition to the typical histological findings of DFSP, melanin-containing dendritic cells are found in BT. Its occurrence at birth is very rare and there have been only two case reports of congenital BT in the English literature. A 12-year-old boy presented with a single, dome-shaped erythematous nodule, 25 x 15 mm in size, on the lower back. The lesion was present as a depressed patch at birth. Subsequently the lesion grew gradually to a dome-shaped mass. Histopathological examination found a dense infiltration of spindle cells arranged in a storiform pattern in the dermis, with pigmented cells admixed with the spindle cells. Cell mitosis and atypia were rarely seen. On immunohistochemical study, the tumour cells were positive for CD34 and melanin-containing cells were positive for S-100. A diagnosis of BT was made and the mass was removed by wide local excision. There was no evidence of recurrence at follow-up 8 months later.
Abstract Background Clinically, pilomatricoma offers potential for a wide spectrum of differential diagnoses. It typically occurs in pediatric patients with the head being the most common location. A second peak of clinical presentation occurs in adults at age 50–65 years, suggesting a bimodal pattern of occurrence. Objective To investigate the clinical and epidemiological features of pilomatricoma in adults over 20 years old, as it is a common and frequently misdiagnosed tumor. Methods This was a retrospective study of pilomatricomas surgically removed at a tertiary hospital between January 1994 and December 2014. A search of the all‐pathological database of patients aged over 20 years old with a pathological diagnosis of pilomatricoma was carried out. Results The clinical preoperative diagnosis of pilomatricoma was made in 34.0% of cases. Tumor location showed a predilection to the head and neck. Of the reported concomitant neoplasm, a majority had accompanying skin tumors. Conclusion We conclude that clinical features in adults were similar to those of children. This study outlines clinical presentations that should help to guide differential diagnoses. Additionally, because of similarities between the distribution and depth of vellus hair follicles and pilomatricomas, it is probable that vellus hair bulbs may be the origin of this tumor.
Topical steroid is one of the main armaments for dermatologists, but it can cause many unwanted side effects. Allergic contact dermatitis, even if it is rare, is one of them and would fall the physician in to confusion. So it is important to consider this problem in the case of dermatitis with no or poor response to appropriate topical steroid therapy. We herein report a case of anergic contact dermatitis caused by topical hydrocortisone cream.
