We analyze the behaviour of kink soliton Lorentz transformations. We show that for consistency with the Poincaré algebra we have to use a regularization prescription, which is different from the one used by Dashen, Hasslacher and Neveu, for calculating the soliton energy.

Extracting the spectral index of the intergalactic magnetic field from radio polarizations

We explain the large scale correlations in radio polarization in terms of the correlations of galaxy cluster/supercluster magnetic field. Assuming that the polarization correlations closely follow the spatial correlations of the background magnetic field we recover the magnetic field spectral index as -2.74$\pm$0.04.This remarkably agrees with cluster magnetic field spectral index obtained in cosmological magneto-hydrodynamic simulations. We discuss possible physical scenarios in which the observed polarization alignment is plausible.

Lorentz covariance of current matrix elements in a soliton model

Through the use of the semiclassical approximation we compute the diagonal matrix elements of the topologically conserved current in the ${\ensuremath{\phi}}^{4}$ kink field theory within the one-soliton sector. We demonstrate the Lorentz covariance of these matrix elements within the canonical Hamiltonian framework of Christ and Lee. We also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of two choices of collective variables for representing the underlying quantum fields in terms of computing the diagonal matrix elements of this current operator.

Reaction of deuteron with a heavy nucleus at low energies

We extend the recently proposed mechanism for inducing low energy nuclear reactions (LENR) to compute the reaction rate of deuteron with a heavy nucleus. The process gets dominant contribution at second order in the time dependent perturbation theory and is assisted by a resonance. The reaction proceeds by breakdown of deuteron into a proton and a neutron due to the action of the first perturbation. In the second, nuclear perturbation, the neutron gets captured by the heavy nucleus. Both perturbations are assumed to be electromagnetic and lead to the emission of two photons, one at each vertex. The heavy nucleus is taken to be ${}^{58}$Ni although many other may be considered.The reaction rate is found to be very small unless assisted by some special conditions. In the present case we assume the presence of a nuclear resonant state. In the presence of such a state we find that the reaction rate is sufficiently large to be observable in laboratory even at low energies.

Self-interacting dark matter in the solar system

Weakly coupled, almost massless, spin 0 particles have been predicted by many extensions of the standard model of particle physics. Recently, the PVLAS group observed a rotation of polarization of electromagnetic waves in vacuum in the presence of transverse magnetic field. This phenomenon is best explained by the existence of a weakly coupled light pseudoscalar particle. However, the coupling required by this experiment is much larger than the conventional astrophysical limits. Here we consider a hypothetical self-interacting pseudoscalar particle which couples weakly with visible matter. Assuming that these pseudoscalars pervade the galaxy, we show that the solar limits on the pseudoscalar-photon coupling can be evaded.

COSMIC BIREFRINGENCE WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF HETEROTIC STRING THEORY

Low energy string theory predicts the existence of an axion field which can lead to cosmic birefringence. We solve the electromagnetic wave equations in the presence of such an axion and a dilaton field in order to determine their effect on the polarization of light. We find that the presence of dilaton field leads to a nontrivial modification of the final result. We comment on the possibility of discovering such an effect by observations of radio wave polarizations from distant radio galaxies and quasars. We have also determined the limits on the string theory parameters that are imposed by the current polarization data from distant quasars and radio galaxies.

Here, we present the updated results on the cosmic ray energy spectrum and composition analysis from the GRAPES-3 experiment over the energy range of 50 TeV to 1000 TeV since ICRC 2021.The simulation of cosmic ray showers was performed using the post-LHC high energy hadronic interaction model QGSJetII-04 and low energy hadronic model FLUKA.A detailed GEANT4 simulation of the GRAPES-3 muon telescope was performed.The composition was obtained by fitting simulated muon multiplicity distributions for proton, helium, nitrogen, aluminium, and iron primaries to the observed data.The energy spectrum connects to the direct measurements with a fairly good agreement in flux. Classifying Polarization Observables of the Cosmic Microwave Background

We revisit the classification of polarization observables of the cosmic microwave background. There exists a unified approach to the $3 \times 3$ density matrix by which intensity, linear and circular polarization are treated on an equal footing. The representations of the rotation group on the sphere contain certain right-left setup symmetries which have not been taken into account before. Left-right symmetries revise the construction of invariants and certain predictions based on symmetries. There are two true rotational invariants mode by mode in polarization data. Independent of models of cosmological perturbations, we emphasize methods to construct invariant distributions in order to test predictions of isotropy, axial or parity symmetries, and generate covariant and invariant statistics order by order.
