Pulmonary complications commonly cause mortality in critically ill patients with acute and chronic liver diseases in the intensive care unit. Pneumonia is the most common clinical diagnosis supported by radiological and microbiological results, which are subjective and often with poor yield. The study aimed to correlate clinical diagnosis and postmortem lung histology in patients with liver disease with respiratory failure.

Quality systems in automated plateletpheresis in hospital‐based blood transfusion service in north India

Abstract The issues of providing quality blood products and maintaining donor safety are primary aims of blood transfusion services. A comprehensive quality system should be in place to fulfill these aims, which can be attained through strict adherence to the established standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Drugs and Cosmetics Act of India, which controls the licensing of blood transfusion services, does not provide clear guidelines regarding plateletpheresis procedure. We, therefore, established our own SOP and operational flow chart for plateletpheresis that can be easily followed by other centers in India. A total of 100 plateletpheresis procedures performed using two cell separators (CS3000 Baxter Healthcare, Round Lake, IL; MCS3p, Haemonetics Corporation, Braintree, MA) were evaluated following our established SOP. The mean platelet yield in CS3000 was 2.9 ± 0.84 × 10 11 and in MCS3p it was 2.88 ± 0.75 × 10 11 per unit. However, only 4–7% of SDPs showed WBC levels <5 × 10 6 due to lack of appropriate methods to quantitate residual WBC counts. Six of 100 donors complained of hypocalcemic symptoms. Isolation and Characterization of Tyrosinase (A Carbon Trapping Enzyme) Producing Microorganisms, in the Agricultural Soil of Western Uttar Pradesh and the Study of Enzymatic Activity of Tyrosinase Produced

Tyrosinase is an enzyme which shows a carbon trapping activity in soil. Carbon, being one of the main component of the greenhouse gases needs to be reduced in the earth’s atmosphere. Hence, tyrosinase producing microorganismin the soil plays a vital role in reducing carbon content and hence the global warming. Taking in view the importance of tyrosinase producing microorganism in the soil, present study is conducted to isolate and characterize the microflora which is the potent producer of tyrosinase in the soil of western Uttar Pradesh. The work dealt with the growth of soil dwelling microorganism on suitable growth medium. Once they were characterized as enzyme producer, the enzyme was produced and crude enzyme was then extracted. Finally, the activity and kinetic studies of the enzyme were performed from a very potent bacterial population of micromonospora found among them.

The reviews in this Insight cover many different aspects of this energetic field, although all, in one way or another, illuminate the functioning of modular circuits, including their robustness, design and manipulation. Computational systems biology addresses questions fundamental to our understanding of life, yet progress here will lead to practical innovations in medicine, drug discovery and engineering, In this study we have evaluated the potentiality of Antifungal Aqueous extracts on Yeast cultures and scientifically proven the same using Cytoscape.
