The Stress-Strain Verification Test and Results Analysis of Riser Joint

Based on experimental proof requirements, the stress-strain test is applied on riser joint after optimized design by method of the Finite Element to verify its correctness. Taking into account that the complex of selecting node in finite element can`t be met in experiment, 24 groups points in suspected area of the simulation results are collected. The results of the finite element simulation in the design are confirmed based on the analysis of the collecting data, except the local stress concentration and other issues.

Effect of salt bath temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of an austempered alloyed cast iron

An alloyed cast iron was prepared by horizontal continuous casting. To study the salt bath temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties, the alloyed cast iron was firstly austenitized at 950 °C for 3 h and then austempered in salt bath at various temperatures (250 °C, 300 °C and 350 °C) for another 3 h. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were employed to observe the microstructure and test the mechanical properties of the alloyed cast iron. Results show that the microstructure of the alloyed cast iron is mainly composed of acicular or feathery ferrite (bainite), retained austenite, carbide, and graphite. When austempered in salt bath at 250 °C, 300 °C and 350 °C for 3 h, the volume fractions of retained austenite are 33.1%, 41.7%, and 57.2%, the thickness of acicular ferrite are 0.25 µm, 0.3 µm, and 0.8 µm. As the salt bath austempering temperature increases, the mechanical properties decrease due to the increase of the volume fraction of retained austenite and the thickness of acicular ferrite. The highest tensile strength of the alloyed cast iron is achieved when it is austempered at 250 °C in a salt bath. Under these conditions, the tensile strength of the alloyed cast iron can reach 1,429 MPa. Tensile test results indicate that the fracture mechanism is predominantly brittle fracture.

Characterization of mechanical properties of TaC/Fe composite layer on gray cast iron by using nano-indentation

Abstract A TaC/Fe composite layer was prepared on a gray cast iron surface by using the interfacial reaction technique. The phase composition, microstructure and crystal structure of TaC/Fe composite layer were analyzed with X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The hardness and elastic modulus of TaC/Fe composite layer were examined by nano-indentation testing. The plastic deformation behavior of TaC/Fe composite layer was characterized with the index of creep stress. The results demonstrated that the intrinsic hardness and elastic modulus of TaC/Fe composite layer were 21 GPa and 413 GPa, respectively. During nano-indentation testing, the plastic deformation resistance of TaC/Fe composite layer decreased with the increase in load, while the plastic deformation resistance decreased as the loading rate rose.

The Albitization of K-Feldspar in Organic- and Silt-Rich Fine-Grained Rocks of the Lower Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation in the Southwestern Upper Yangtze Region, China

The albitization of K-feldspar is a common diagenetic process that has thus far received little attention and is not fully understood in fine-grained sedimentary rocks. To better understand the albitization of K-feldspar, studies in organic- and silt-rich fine-grained rocks of the lower Cambrian Qiongzhusi Formation in the southwestern Upper Yangtze region, China, were carried out via X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). The results show that five types of albitized K-feldspar textures have developed: microcrystal albite replacement, irregular blocky replacement along margins, cleavage planes or microcracks of K-feldspars, complete pseudomorphic replacement, albite overgrowth, and albite pore filling. Organic- and silt-rich fine-grained rocks differ from sandstones and mudstones in terms of the rock structure and mineral assemblage, which results in differences in the textures and degree of albitization of K-feldspar. Illitization of clay has an impact on the albitization of K-feldspar. In provenance analyses using feldspar, fine-grained rocks, especially those that underwent mesogenesis, should be treated with caution because detrital feldspars have been destroyed. Theoretically, the albitization of K-feldspar could increase the porosity of reservoirs, although, from our observations, most of the related secondary pores are cancelled out or became isolated pores due to other diagenetic processes (compaction, cementation, etc.) in organic- and silt-rich fine-grained rocks.
