Layout optimization for non-equidistant thrust system of tunneling machine based on geometric progression under mixed ground

For the difference of rock and soil strength on the tunneling face, curved tunneling, and the top-heavy structure of the main machine forming the complex geological structure, the adoption of uniform thrust system arising from large unbalanced load easily causes cracks and dislocations in the rear segments. Therefore, non-equidistant driving system would be adopted in this composite foundation. This article presents a geometric progression method for layout design of non-uniform thrust system. Based on the force transmission laws of the thrust system, the geometric progression increasing difference model of arranging non-uniform driving system has been proposed. Then, the characteristics of the design method have been discussed in detail. Finally, the model has been applied to a diameter of 9.49 m of tunneling machine with a thrust system of 14 pairs of jacks which has been successfully used in curved tunnel construction in Germany. By adopting the coefficient of variation representing the force transmission performance derived from all thrusts for jacks, it indicates that the performance of the optimized thrust system is better than the original one. The results would provide a theoretical basis for the design of a non-equidistant thrust system with better force transmission performance under working geological conditions.

Force Transmission Characteristics for Thrust System in Rectangular Shield Machine

This work aims to investigate the force transmission characteristics of a thrust system in a rectangular shield machine under the influence of various factors. These factors main include the external partial loads produced by the heterogeneity of rock and soil on the excavation face, the uneven distribution of friction acted on the shield body of the shield tunneling machine, the uneven distributed mass of the main machine, or attitude correction in the tunneling construction progress. First, the force uniformity mechanical model for the rectangular shield machine has been set up on the basis of the external loads. The force transmission characteristics of the model for the thrust system have been discussed in detail. Then, the method of reconfiguring the hydraulic cylinders in the thrust system to improve the force transmission performance has been proposed. Finally, virtual prototype simulation has been conducted to verify the effectiveness of presented method. Results show that the coefficient variation (CV) value of the reconfigured thrust system is much smaller than that of the unadjusted one, indicating that the force uniformity of the reconfigured thrust system is better. Such results would provide foundation and support for the design of a rectangular shield machine that can avoid partial loads.

Dimensional design of thrust system with an adjustable layout mechanism in shield machine

Due to the heterogeneity of advancing face and the top-heavy structure of main machine, hydraulic cylinders of thrust system in shield machine are subjected to the transverse and longitudinal resistance torque varying in a certain interval which would give rise to bias load. Aiming at resisting unbalance load, a kind of thrust system which can regulate all jacks by a layout adjustable mechanism has been proposed in this paper. Considering the workspace, the limited space in the main machine of the machine and the ultimate strength of lining segments, the synthesis dimensional design for the adjustable mechanism has been studied. Under given the working conditions, the force transmission performance for the thrust system with the ability of adjustable layout has been investigated by virtual prototypes using variation coefficient assessment model. Results shown that the adjusted non-uniform thrust system has a better force transmission performance than prior to the uniform thrust system. It also implies that the regulated arrangement thrust system has the strong ability of decomposing external partial loads and prevention of lining segments. Results would provide theoretical foundation and support for the design of the thrust system with an ability of resisting bias load.

Numerical Analysis on Non-Uniform Thrust System in EPB Shield Machine Applied in Beijing Metro Line 6

This paper is to investigate the mechanical characteristics of non-equidistant thrust system in an EPB shield machine with a diameter of 6.15 m applied in Beijing Metro Line 6 construction. Firstly, on the ground of tunneling condition, virtual prototypes for traditional even system and the non-equidistant one have been built. Under the same given working conditions, simulation forces from three jacks in two systems have been compared with those numerical ones. Secondly, based on relative coefficient mode, comparison of force transmission performance between traditional even thrust system and the non-equidistant one have been discussed. Finally, the effects from all forces applied by the two kind of different layouts thrust systems have been studied using finite element method. The results shown that the non-uniform thrust system in the EPB shield machine applied in Beijing subway construction has more significant advantages in the aspects of forces transmission performance and the prevention of the collapse of the lining segments.
